Criminal Court Cases in Boise County
Boise County belongs to Idaho's Fourth Judicial District. The District Court hears felony cases. The Magistrate Division handles misdemeanors and conducts the first and preliminary steps in felony matters. Idaho has no separate municipal court docket for Horseshoe Bend, Idaho City, or Crouch. Local citations and criminal complaints enter the same unified state court system.
The Boise County Clerk of the District Court is the custodian of filed pleadings, orders, judgments, and docket entries. The prosecutor decides which charge to file, but the prosecutor does not maintain the court file. This split helps explain why a sheriff arrest report, a prosecutor's filed count, and the court's final disposition can use different terms. For the filed case, rely on the clerk and the Idaho iCourt Portal.
Boise County Felony and Misdemeanor Courts
Idaho does not use a universal Class A, B, or C grid. The offense statute sets the level and penalty. On a Boise County docket, a felony goes to District Court, though its initial appearance and preliminary hearing can occur before the Magistrate Division. A misdemeanor remains in Magistrate Court. An infraction also appears there but generally concerns a fine rather than a criminal jail sentence.
- Arraignment

- Register of actions
- The dated list of filings, hearings, orders, and other events in the case.
- Bond
- The release condition or amount entered by the court when applicable.
Boise County Case Record Searches
Start with iCourt Smart Search for public statewide case information. Select Boise County as the location so the results are not confused with Boise City, which lies in Ada County. Search by a party name or exact case number, then narrow by criminal case type, status, or filing dates when those controls appear. Online access gives an index and case details, but it does not guarantee a downloadable copy of every pleading.
- Open iCourt Smart Search and enter a party name or case number.
- Expand the filters and select Boise County as the location.
- Narrow the case type, status, or filing date when needed.
- Open the result and review parties, charges, hearings, events, dispositions, and balances.
- Ask the Boise County clerk for a copy, certified judgment, or item that is not downloadable.

Boise County Docket Without a PDF
A docket event can be visible while the document itself is not available for public download. That does not mean the filing is missing. Idaho's Judicial Branch describes several access tiers: the public portal, a courthouse kiosk, a copy request to the filing clerk, and separate channels for appellate or compiled court data.
The Idaho court records access page illustrates those routes.
For a pleading, exhibit, audio record, or certified judgment, contact the Boise County clerk and name the case number and exact item sought.
What a Criminal Case File Contains
The file records what the prosecutor charged and what the court did with each count. Read it in date order. An arrest charge is not the same as the filed charge, and a filed charge is not a conviction. When a repository entry lacks a disposition, the certified judgment is the best source for correcting the result with Idaho State Police BCI.

Boise County Criminal Court Calendar
Boise County publishes a local rhythm that can help readers interpret hearing entries. Magistrate in-custody matters are set daily at 1:00 p.m. Arraignment and motion day is Monday, jury trials are the second Tuesday, and sentencing is the fourth Tuesday. District criminal law-and-motion is scheduled at 9:00 a.m. on the Friday after the second Monday each month.
Those patterns are not a promise for any one case. Continuances, reassignment, and special settings can change the date. Confirm the current iCourt hearing entry or call the clerk before relying on a calendar pattern. The daily in-custody setting is also not an inmate roster. It reflects court work, not a full list of people held at the Boise County Holding Facility.
Criminal Case Stages in Boise County
A criminal case file begins when the prosecutor files a charge, not merely when police make an arrest. Felony cases often start with Magistrate Division proceedings before moving to District Court. The docket then collects notices, motions, hearings, pleas, trial events, and the resolution of each count. Sentencing follows a conviction or other judgment that calls for it.
Case flow: Charges Filed › Arraignment › Pretrial › Plea or Trial › Disposition › Sentencing
Some paths are shorter. A count can be dismissed, amended, or resolved by plea without a trial. The register of actions supplies the order of events, while the signed judgment gives the controlling outcome. Boise County Court Records Under Rule 32
Idaho Court Administrative Rule 32 controls access to judicial records. It operates separately from the Idaho Public Records Act. Public iCourt results omit or redact protected identity data, victim details, juvenile matters, mental-health records, presentence reports, grand-jury information, and sealed material. A blank result can therefore mean a spelling or filter problem, an older record that needs clerk help, or a case that the public cannot see.
The official Rule 32 text explains the court access categories.
The image reinforces why a no-result screen cannot serve as proof that no record exists.
Federal Cases Outside Boise County Court
A federal crime arising in Boise County is filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Idaho, not in Boise County District Court. PACER searches federal cases by court, case number, party, filing dates, and status. Its criminal docket can show charges, counsel, hearings, filings, and the assigned judge. Sealed federal material remains unavailable.
The official PACER service is the federal docket channel.
This separate layer prevents a federal case from being mistaken for a missing county docket.
Access Rules for Case Records
Public access is broad, but it is not unlimited. Start online, then use the Boise County kiosk or clerk when a public item is not downloadable. Ask for a certified copy when the exact judgment or disposition matters. Certified copies, audio, exhibits, appellate files, and bulk compiled data may require different request routes, so describe the item instead of asking for a vague complete history.
Bring or provide the case number whenever possible. If only a name is known, add the filing year or other nonprotected detail that helps distinguish similar parties. The clerk can explain the available copy channel, but staff cannot give legal advice or decide whether a record qualifies for sealing. Boise County accepts major cards and debit for certain court payments with a published convenience charge, yet that payment notice does not establish a copy fee. Ask the clerk for the current copy or certification cost before ordering.
A dismissed case can remain visible because dismissal is a disposition, not automatic deletion. Idaho also distinguishes nonconviction expungement, Rule 32 sealing, juvenile relief, and Clean Slate shielding. Shielding limits ordinary public disclosure without destroying the underlying record. If iCourt shows a result that appears wrong, secure the signed judgment first. That document identifies the court's actual outcome and gives BCI or another custodian a sound basis for reviewing an inaccurate linked entry.
